PhD: Olkola’s Digital Cultural Heritage: An Indigenous-led Participatory Process (ongoing)
This is an Indigenous-led research-by-design project that involves a partnership with the Olkola Aboriginal Corporation to respond to Olkola’s digital cultural heritage needs and aspirations. This project facilitates Olkola People to collect, manage, and share their digital cultural heritage through Olkola-led co-design. It explores the potential and limitations of emerging digital technologies, including 3D scanning, digital archive, Extended Reality (XR), and digital fabrication, while enabling and analysing a co-design process that draws on Olkola cultural and experiential knowledge. The project contributes to Olkola digital cultural heritage development, reinforcing identity and pride. Academically, it advances theoretical understandings of technological mediation and negotiation in Indigenous-led digital cultural heritage co-design, and provides innovative and appropriate design insights to inform future similar initiatives.
