Measuring, Mapping and Digitising Fujian Hakka Vernacular Building Ensemble Ruiqingbao
Ruiqing Bao, one of the most representative Hakka vernacular residential ensembles in south China, was built in 1880 by the Hakka ancestor Ronghua Qiu. The building ensemble combines the two Hakka traditional typologies, Tubao and Walled Village, which have been functioning as both residential and defensive for over a century. People still live there and maintain their traditional lifestyle, thriving through their deep connection to nature. In 2017, our team (Zichao Ye, Haoran Cheng, Xiangyao Tan, Kaijun He, Chi Liu) were invited by the local municipality to conduct research and digitisation on this cultural heritage.
